fashion industry statistics
when is a woman regarded as overweight. does she loose her beauty as she gains weight?

acording to statistics, a greater proportion of the female population is of the larger size, so when is the fashion industry, media etc going to realise that normal people are not like those you see on the catwalk.

You have presented an interesting question. The opinion that I have is that physical beauty is fleeting to those that see only the outside, and the personality that is beautiful is the only beauty that really lasts. It is true that as a woman ages and for those that start families there is a tendency to gain weight but this shouldn’t stop them from being beautiful to the person they have paired with and I would suggest that it doesn’t. As to the models that showcase fashion it can be pointed out that many are indeed beautiful, however some have a wraith like appearance and can (to my eye anyway) appear androgynous. When looking to the fashion and modeling world as a format for accepted beauty it is worth keeping in mind that homosexual men play an influential role in the designs and the presentation of the clothing as well as the selection of which models will be employed, this is not of course to suggest that the entire fashion industry is overseen by gay culture, only to point out that the the tall, thin, and boyish look that some models display could be interpreted as a standard of beauty that appeals to a smaller(but with every right to be here too) segment of the society. If one looks to magazines such as Playboy it is readily observable that the models are more full bodied and curvaceous. One may look to classicial art as well to observe what beauty in the female form can be expressed as, and again it is readily observable that the women in many of these masterpieces are full bodied and sensual. I would regard a woman to be overweight when her health and self esteem were at risk, and it would be in the best interest of our societies to accept that this is a matter for the individual woman and her medical practitioner to decide. Thank you for raising this issue.
